BREAKING NEWS – MORE TPP LEAKS!

Just yesterday, Wikileaks again released secretive TPP text from the Salt Lake City talks.  See:

After four long years of secrecy and arm-twisting in TPP “negotiations” (more like bullying), the US Trade Representative in league with corporate elite is attempting to coerce other nations to sign against their own national interests for the benefit of the 1%!  Congress needs to assert its authority and end this global debacle.

Peace or Profit: an Update

Due to the ongoing imperialism on the part of the U. S. and its allies, here we are again at the brink of yet another war, this one threatening to mushroom into WWIII, given the explosive situation in the Middle East and the clash of alliance between Syria/Iran/China/Russia vs. the U.S./Israel/Britain/rest of the Middle East, over yet another pipeline that threatens the business interests of the U. S. and Israel. http://t.co/A7ZGYTB20f

This is how this endlessly circular scenario always seems to play out:  the U. S. corporate government decides that its interests are “threatened” (read its monopoly of a sector of the global economy is challenged), the U. S. and its allies install dictators, or depose (or assassinate) democratically-elected leaders by funding and arming rebels (aka “foreign aid”), the country in question descends into chaos and civil war, some flimsy pretext is invented in an attempt to justify military intervention that invariably escalates into all-out war, and voila, U. S. corporate interests and profits remain intact.  See: http://www.corbettreport.com/selling-war-to-the-public/

Obama is again appearing to overstep his authority in yet another example of executive overreach by indicating his willingness to “draw a red line” over the use of chemical weapons supposedly by the Assad regime and attack Syria.  Since these weapons have more likely been supplied to the insurgents by the West in order to further destabilize the situation in Syria, one has to ask if the hypocrisy ever ends with this administration.  Claire Daly in the Irish Parliament did just that when she called the Obama Administration out on this issue:  http://disinfo.com/2013/07/obama-called-war-criminal-and-hypocrite-of-the-century-in-the-irish-parliament/  For a historical perspective, see also:  Exclusive: CIA Files Prove America Helped Saddam as He Gassed Iran

Obama seems determined to double-down on these wrongheaded policies rather than question whether he has either the moral or legal authority to go on the offensive, which will undoubtedly leave far more victims in its wake.  The Green Shadow Cabinet has weighed in on this issue with a statement that if Obama attacks Syria “without prior explicit authorization by Congress, he will have committed an offense worthy of impeachment” and if he does so without UN authorization, that he will be guilty of war crimes: http://greenshadowcabinet.us/statements/dont-attack-syria

The corporate warmongers and their government shills know very well that their continued profiteering depends on the war machine–why so many peace groups, rallies, and marches are so viciously targeted as the goal of peace as inimical to its continued domination.  In funding and fueling wars in their malevolent, underhanded game of chess, they manipulate behind the scenes to pit different groups/nations against one another in an unending ruse to keep the peoples of the world at each other’s throats, off-balance, and fighting to survive and thereby distracted and diverted from not only the truth regarding who is directing the game but from being able to pursue and enjoy the fruits of peace:  health, justice, education, freedom, and democracy, all the human rights so under attack in a militaristic, authoritarian police state such as ours has increasingly become in the last decade.See:  http://www.answercoalition.org/march-forward/statements/to-my-fellow-sailors-refuse.html for a former sailor’s analysis of this situation.

Throughout history, wars have been waged over resources and profits to enrich the 1% at the expense of the 99%.  Never was the Civil War protest rallying cry of “a rich man’s war, but a poor man’s fight” more true than it is today, the impoverished young people entering the armed services as the options narrow for economic survival as our Treasury, into which we the taxpayers have paid, is raided to fund yet another war with all the corporate pigs gorging themselves from the war machine’s “defense” contracts and spying programs while paying no taxes. We have become a corporate welfare state heedlessly pursuing endless war for profit hell-bent on destroying all life on this planet if it means an uptick in quarterly earnings regardless of the ever-more disastrous consequences.  The ultimate irony is that we the taxpayers are funding our own destruction and that of the Earth as well as paying to be spied upon by our own government. http://www.theguardian.com/world/2013/aug/23/nsa-prism-costs-tech-companies-paid

This war, like all the others, has nothing to do with being so offended by innocent casualties but rather, and quite to the contrary, it has to do with the corporate and governmental war criminals who profit from endless war and human carnage, cultural genocide, and ecological destruction. The empire hasn’t a vestige of clothing to cover its naked aggression.  The choice has never been more clear:  we the 99% can have peace, or the 1% can profit from war—which is it going to be?

“We the People Amendment” (House Joint Resolution 29) Introduced Today by Congressman Rick Nolan

Wisconsin Representative Rick Nolan introduced House Joint Resolution 29 today, for which Move-to-Amend has been garnering grassroots support  over many years.  The “We the People Amendment” is a simple, clear, unequivocal statement that corporations are not “persons” and money is not “speech,” in alignment with the intent of the U. S. Constitution, which does not recognize corporate “rights,” assigning rights only to human persons. Indeed, the Constitution does not even mention corporations and the framers were very aware of the abuses that could be done by corporations, instruments then of the 1% as they are today; hence their conspicuous absence from the founding documents.

Because of the 1886 Supreme Court clerk’s decision to include the misbegotten concept of corporate “personhood” in the header of the Southern Pacific Railroad v. Santa Clara County decision, we have been subjected to 127 years of corporate abuse of our Bill of Rights, as they have claimed first, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, and 14th amendment rights in order to subvert our democracy and circumvent laws passed for the protection of the rights and freedoms of the citizenry.  We must reclaim our fundamental, sovereign, exclusive Constitutional rights and end corporate rule.  Call your congressperson today and urge him or her to vote for the “We the People Amendment”!!  For more information, go to:

The People Need to Reclaim the Republic

It is telling that despite campaign promises to the contrary, the Obama administration hasn’t held the previous administration accountable for their abuses of power, has not rescinded the Orwellian practices of detention without trial, has sent even more troops to the Middle East, renewed the “Patriot Act”, went along with a bailout bill for greedy, irresponsible bankers over the strenuous objections of the voters and members of Congress, and kept all the Wall Street profiteers in key advisory positions. It appears that the same power brokers are pulling the strings, regardless of who is the governmental figurehead.

I would suggest that both the right and left wing are correct in their assessment that big government and big business are the problem as they are in league with each other and may even, as some fear, become an indistinguishable monolithic power. The ultra-rich 2% can afford to hire lobbyists but can we?  With the rapid disappearance of the middle class and our civil rights, we are becoming an impoverished slave class.

The alarming levels of corruption of government by corporate influence and the banking industry must be addressed if we are to reclaim our democracy.  We can start by rescinding the recent disastrous Supreme Court Citizens United decision that allows corporations to buy elections, pass the Fair Elections Now Act that imposes campaign spending limits, and pass legislation to end the revolving door between government regulatory agencies and corporate lobbying, among many other reforms, in order to reclaim government by and for the people.

Obama’s Failure of Leadership

Obama just keeps on disappointing the people who put him in office in order to institute change.  He is unaccountably protecting the telecommunication companies instead of the citizens of this country and continuing the abuses of power that were the stock-in-trade of the Bush Administration, despite his being elected to change this kind of corruption.

He similarly refuses to take a more forceful stand with regard to health care or rein in his Chief of Staff but instead continues to pander to insurance lapdogs like Lieberman instead of encouraging others such as Reid to stand up for the citizens of this country. There is no health care reform without the public option and the health care bill without it is otherwise a trillion-dollar giveaway to the insurance lobby in the form of a mandate. People with conflicts of interest like Lieberman are not looking out for the best interests of the people and can never be relied upon to do the right thing–we need to go to reconciliation and stop trying to please the saboteurs.

It is imperative that Congress approve a public health insurance option because if it doesn’t it will be business-as-usual—high premiums, disqualification based on pre-existing conditions, arbitrary cancellation, and skimpy coverage.  There has to be competition introduced into the closed monopoly controlled by the health insurance industry who clearly do not have anyone’s best interests at heart except their own pocketbooks.  Do we want to entrust our physical and financial well-being to a special interest group that has literally made its profits off of the suffering of real people who do not get the treatment or care that they need and deserve?  We must demand that Congress listen to the actual citizens of this country and not cave in to the health industry lobbyists who are attempting to buy them off.  Otherwise, we will be stuck with the broken system that we currently have rather than real reform.  Will Obama continue to disappoint or fight for real reform?
